250th Anniversary Celebtrations
A Celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the establishment of the Onslow Island Cemetery was held in 2013. In attendance were dignitaries and local leaders as well as just under 100 local residents. Bonnie Waddell, volunteer with the Board of Trustees at the time, used her considerable skills as a historian to document a list of milestones over the first two and a half centuries of the Onslow Cemetery. With Bonnie’s encouragement, some of those present came attired in period dress.
To mark the occasion of the 250th Anniversary, a commemorative plaque was prepared and installed in the cemetery, close to the parking area. It was also at this time, under the leadership of then-President Marie McCully-Collier, that a website was established. The website continues to be maintained and updated today to share information and assistance to individuals doing genealogical research.
